Stories into Action
My work is about turning lived experience, history and storytelling into action.
I develop and support projects that bring unheard voices into the conversation, preserve histories that might otherwise be lost, and help organisations understand and respond to the people and communities they serve.
My projects bring together education, human rights, inclusion, storytelling and lived experience.
I Protect Me
I Protect Me (IPM) empowers women and children in South Africa to speak out and stand up against abuse. Founded by me in 2013, IPM has reached more than a million vulnerable people in schools and communities. Although I have stepped down as a Trustee, I continue to support the organisation as an ambassador.
Apartheid in the Primary Curriculum
A project bringing the history and lived experience of Apartheid South Africa into primary education, giving children the opportunity to learn, question and engage with history through the voice of someone who lived through it.
Saartjie Baartman — Heritage & Memory
My continuing work around the life and legacy of Saartjie Baartman, exploring history, identity, heritage and the importance of allowing people and communities to tell their own stories.
Storytelling, Lived Experience & Inclusion
I work with organisations and institutions to explore how the voices of their beneficiaries can be included in service design and delivery — ensuring that services respond to people’s real experiences, circumstances and needs.
