I speak because stories can change what we understand, what we remember and what we do. When we share our stories, our lived experiences can help shape the development, delivery and improvement of the services we receive. Our voices can help make those services more responsive to the people they are intended to serve.
Why invite Monica to speak?
I bring lived experience, professional experience and decades of working with communities into conversations about history, human rights, equality and inclusion. My talks are shaped with a focus on giving voice to experience and encouraging conversations that can lead to change.
What I speak about
I say "Inequality stops with me," and use my own experiences of apartheid and racism so that the mistakes of history will be kept alive for the learning of our children.
Sharing our stories can help those who design and deliver services understand what works, what doesn’t and what needs to change.
I have years of speaking from public and private platforms, supporting the delivery of services, bringing the experiences of their beneficiaries into board rooms, HR and front-line delivery services. Examples are: His Majesty's Prisons; National Health Service (NHS, UK); professional training rooms (nursing and teaching); and Schools, where I particularly enjoy telling my experiences so that young minds will remember and will be able to identify the seeds of inequality before they grow.
If you would like to discuss a speaking opportunity, please be in touch and tell me a little about your event, audience and what you would like to explore.
